07.19

Trying to make plans on a photo group shoot next week. Everything and anything is game!
Anyone in the area interested, lemme know. The more we have, the better chances of it taking place.

My Monday would have been more pleasant, if only it would have continued to rain through out the day. But noooo. One quick storm this morning, and another just about an hour ago.
I did, however, get a lot of photos edited today.
Have I mentioned lately how I just can't wait for Fall to arrive? Not liking this heat. You can't pay me enough.
Nothing new in the Valenta household. The hubby is downstairs tinkering around in the garage. I'm up here in the hottest room in the house. How did that happen? Is it my pc? Throwing off so much heat it makes it feel like an oven?!

I love when I'm handed new programs to try out.

Lemme see...

Updates:

Leica came, had my first roll developed. Very surprised on how sharp most of the pictures came out. Hate to say it, but i'm already looking into other vintage cameras. I just want to collect them all! But I know I need to spend more time with the Leica first. It's strange how different camera's are from one another.

Got back in touch with the Senior Editor, he gave me a good reference to retired photographer here in GWL. We agreed to touch up on my editorial a bit before furthering the paper route.

Steve and I talked a bit about another little getaway. I would love to go back to Cape May, but not in the middle of summer. More towards the end of the summer like we did last year. I should google around to other interesting spots near there. Cape May had a lot of war history, as did the surrounding area. Maybe we could visit someplace new with history we haven't yet discovered.

That's pretty much an update for the past week. Work has me whipped at the end of the day, so nothing too extraordinary.

T'was the day!

Had my get-together with the Senior Editor of Multimedia with the local paper today.

I'm a Stringer! Not quite sure when my first assignment will be, but I'll give it a shot! So I suppose i'm not quite a Stringer until I get my first one.

I'd go through all the details on the interview, but it was a long day as it was, and i'm tired.
Basically he told me, in a nice way, that my photos are good, I have a good eye, but my pics are a bit too much on the artsy side for editorial, but he's giving me a shot to see how I do. They have a newspaper and a magazine. I really wanted to shoot magazine, but that's the higher end of the two, and you really have to prove yourself and put your time in before you're even considered for the mag.
I met with him, and his "roommate" Jim, (he shares an office), and they both gave me some really good advice. Both are super nice guys! It was an honor just to be able to sit with these two men, who probably have about 50+ years photog experience between the two of them, and have them share with me some valuable tips. Everything from composition to equipment and lens, to what types of conversations to have with your clients as you're fiddling getting your gear ready to go.
It was heaven.

But, that's all I got for now. The hubby is done mowing the grass and i'm hungry so off I go for quality time...

Business cards have arrived!
Now where o where is that Leica...?

Weekend Update:

A Leica C1 has sort of fell into my hands. It is 11 years old. I can't wait to actually get it and start using it.
I have a roll of film and an extra battery waiting for its arrival. It's coming from a very clean home and the body itself is in mint condition.

Everything seems to be at a standstill... which is good. The photog class is going really well, i'm actually learning a little bit of what I don't already know. I got word today that the business cards have been shipped. Excited to see those in my hands.

My weekend so far has been fantastic. The husband and I actually had 2 full days together. Today he put up a clothesline for me so we don't have to run the dryer in the summer. I was surprised on how fast all 3 loads dried outside. Then again, it was about 100 degrees out there.

Home made Naan pizza's on the grill tonight!

1st Assignment

I completed all the reading I had to do, took a few random tests that were easy. Just uploaded my first assignment and now I'm waiting to be graded.
I hope this photog course gets more challenging with things I may not already know. Oh well, either way I get a certificate.

Thinking of gathering some old Winter/Christmas photos and making up some Holiday cards for this coming season. Now that I have new ideas and tools I can use to make them more interesting.

hmmmm....
