We peered off down a hillside where strangely enough, we saw a herd of zebra's, camel and horses all grazing together in this wide field.
Of course we zigzagged down back roads trying to find the route that would lead us near this unusual site.
While pulling up to this house, we then saw a huge elephant being led from a barn across the street, disappearing to a field behind the main house.
Um, what?! Where were we??!
A really nice, and somewhat on the shy side, woman came to greet us. Explained to us who she was and what she did. We were at The Sanctuary For Animals.
Be still my little heart! <-- extreme animal lover over here!
She told us how a variety of animals came to be at her sanctuary, everything from an elephant, lions, zebras, monkeys, camel... plenty of dogs and cats, and how (at the time) 10% of her animals were considered "working" animals, they were the ones they used for films and such when they were called upon to perform. The money they would obtain for their services was then used to run the sanctuary, along with the generous donations she received from the community.
We asked if we could take pictures (and we took a whooole lot!). She told us we could take them along the roadside, but we weren't allowed back in the property for legal reasons. Ya know, in case we get mauled by a hungry lion, or trampled by the elephant.

So, I would recommend anyone who is local to drive by and check this place out. The kids will love it, there is plenty to see along the road. You'll feel like you're along for a safari ride.
